…just in time for Christmas. Remember this bag?

It’s the Mama Baby Haiti bag, named for the MamaBaby Haiti charity organization whose logo is featured on it. I’m pleased to announce that the warehouse has sold out of our first order of these bags. More will be on the way, but you may still be able to find some in your local yarn shops. For every bag sold, Lantern Moon is donating $2 to MamaBaby Haiti. Last week, we sent them a check for $800, and you made it possible.

MamaBaby Haiti is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well being of mothers and babies. Their mission is to lower the maternal, fetal, and neonatal mortality rate in Haiti. MamaBaby Haiti is formed by a group of midwives and naturopathic doctors who serve women and families out of their birthing center and clinic in Haiti. They provide free prenatal, birth, postpartum, and pediatric care, in addition to education and other life saving services.

You can see our previous post here. Thank you for supporting Lantern Moon in this effort!

And just a reminder about our Fyberspates Scrumptious yarn giveaway. I’ll be picking three winners on Monday, December 26. Have you entered the contest? See this post for details.

Hello, Beautiful!

Where have you been all my life? Remember the debut of this bag at the TNNA show in January?

bali

The Lantern Moon Bali Weekender is here! (So new it’s not on the website yet. The Bali Overnight is similar, with a different needle punch design.) They came in to the Lantern Moon warehouse last week, so I made a beeline over there and brought one home. Did I need another bag? Ummmm, yes. This one.

It’s rather gorgeous, isn’t it? The needle punch work is exquisitely lovely.

And the bag is a great size for travel, or a big knitting project. Or several small knitting projects, which is what I’ve got in there right now. (A pair of slippers, a cowl, and some fingerless mitts, in case you’re wondering.) There’s lots of room left. It has two large compartments; one is padded for a laptop. There are pockets inside that are the perfect size for my cell phone and sunglasses, as well as pen loops, and a zippered pocket on the inside and one on the outside.

It’s a great design. I think it’s perfect!

Reminder: Don’t forget to read the previous post and enter to win some Fyberspates Scrumptious yarn!

Lantern Moon is pleased to provide eight free patterns for Fyberspates Scrumptious yarns! Five are single skein accessories patterns, and three are for sweaters. You can see the patterns and download them on the Lantern Moon website. These beautiful designs are by Jeni Hewlett and others, for Fyberspates.

We’d love for you to knit these designs in luscious 45%silk/55%merino Fyberspates Scrumptious, which comes in five weights and many luscious shades. Here’s an incentive: Look at the patterns, and tell me which single-skein design is your favorite, and why. I’ll pick three lucky winners to receive a skein in the appropriate weight yarn for their favorite design. Contest is open to USA residents only, as we are the USA distributors for Fyberspates Scrumptious. Patterns are free for everyone!

I’ll be picking winners on December 26th. Ready, set, GO!

The first orders of Fyberspates Scrumptious have made it out of the warehouse and into local yarn shops across the USA. There’s more on the way! Here’s the display at Jessica Knits in Scottsdale, AZ. Tammy at Jessica Knits says,

The yarn came in yesterday and we got it out on the floor today. Wow! It is just gorgeous! We were selling it as we were getting it out on the floor.

That’s a quick sale! Thanks for the picture, Tammy!

Reader, has your LYS ordered Scrumptious?

December treats

It’s December, which means I can officially think about December holidays. (I refuse to acknowledge December until November is through. I’m stubborn.)

What treats do you want to find in your stocking?

Or next to your menorah? (Eight gifts?)

At your solstice celebration?

There’s something for everyone! And if you need to keep in touch with people, may I suggest these.

See our special holiday page for more ideas. Or browse the whole Lantern Moon site.

Looking for a shop? We now have a store locator on our Facebook page. It’s on the left sidebar, right under the events button.

What do you want to give/get this December? I think I want some Scrumptious yarn to play with…

Who wants yarn? Heading your way, soon! Happy Thanksgiving!

I found out that this picture

is from John and Marcia from Sheep’s Clothing in Kennewick, WA. Thanks so much for the picture! If anyone else has a picture of their Lantern Moon tape measure in some exotic locale, let me know! Sean tells me that Sheep’s Clothing is going to be carrying a pretty complete offering of our new Scrumptious line; check it out.

We’ve sent Fyberspates Scrumptious yarn to one of our winners, Jenifer. She received her teal DK/worsted yarn and tweeted this:

Ohhhhh… You guys. Well, knitty friends… I just got my Fyberspates yarn from @lanternmoon in the mail. Holy crapamoley. #newaddiction

I think she likes it!

Still waiting to hear back from our other yarn winner, Susan…

Stay tuned for more fun with Scrumptious!

Stash

A warm welcome to Stash, a new shop/social space/gallery in Corvallis, Oregon. I met up with Stash owner Sonia, a blogger friend, at Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival in September. At that time, she was just a month from opening her shop. She had a great time picking up yarn and supplies at the festival!

sonia

I showed her how to purl back backwards without turning her work; this was the demo I was doing at the PDXKnitbloggers’ booth on the lawn. I happened to be using my new Lantern Moon Featherlight needles, and she fell in love with them. She’s now carrying them in her shop, along with many other Lantern Moon goodies, including our fabulous black sheep tape measures.

Sonia invited me to Stash to do a PDXKnitterati trunk show, my first trunk show ever! I had a great time. I forgot to bring Lambert, but I had his cousin Baa-bette in my knitting bag.

We’re so glad to have Stash carrying Lantern Moon products. Welcome to the fold!

What’s your favorite Lantern Moon knitting tool?

Leigh Radford, designer and author of several books including One Skein and One More Skein, is spearheading a community knitting project, and you can be a part of it.This is the Albers Stash Blanket from One More Skein. Leigh says:

Please join me in knitting blankets to be donated to those in need this winter! Knit and send me one panel of the Albers Stash Blanket. I’ll be gathering a team to assemble and complete the blankets. Blankets completed here in Portland will be donated to P:ear, Cascade Aids Project, and Raphael House. If enough panels are completed…, I would love to expand this list of recipients and will include non-profit organizations outside the Portland-metro area.

If you’d like to coordinate your own effort and donate a blanket within your community, please send me photos of your work in progress and completed work as I’ll be posting photos of everyone’s efforts as this project progresses.

Due date: Panels need to arrive in Portland/OR by January 31, 2012.

You can find more information on Leigh’s Facebook page. Questions? Not on Facebook? You can email Leigh at OneMoreSkein@leighradford.com.

I ran into Leigh at Twisted last weekend, and she passed on this panel to me. Leigh mentioned that she has started several panels and passed them on to other knitters. Lantern Moon has generously donated some needles so that Leigh has multiple panels going. Cathy and Sharon are knitting panels, too!

albers2

The pattern is simple, and is available through Leigh’s Facebook page. I’m happily knitting away on it, and will go into my tiny stash of leftovers (I’m not a stasher, remember?) and see what the next color will be. It might be a challenge; I’ve worked mostly with jewel tones, and this is not!

Would you like to be part of this project? You don’t have to knit an entire blanket, or even an entire panel. You can organize your knitting friends to complete a blanket, one panel, or even just get a panel from Leigh and knit on it for a while and send it back. But the more you knit, the more stash you use, and that means that more blankets will be donated. I hope you’ll join us!

Ysolda!

We had a special visitor at the Lantern Moon office last week. Ysolda Teague! This popular designer was here in Portland for a workshop and book signing event at Happy Knits, and she took time for a stop at Lantern Moon.

It was a quick and busy visit with lots of not-ready-for-prime-time developments! So busy that Steve forgot to take a picture. I wasn’t there, but I did get this the day before.

Ysolda has selected six special colors for our Fyberspates Scrumptious yarn line. There are two colors in lace, two colors in 4ply/sport, and 2 colors in Aran. We’re looking forward to receiving these in our warehouse soon.
